Holmquist Cytotechnologist Achievement Award |
Instituted in 1990, the Marion and Nelson Holmquist Award for outstanding Cytotechnologist is named in honor of two longtime supporters of cytotechnologists and their work. Marion Danos Holmquist, a cytotechnologist, was the first president of the American Society for Cytotechnology. She and her husband, pathologist Nelson Holmquist, have encouraged ASCT’s mission of improving the profession of cytotechnology. Since the early nineties, the Holmquist Award has been presented to a cytotechnologist who has, in turn, made his or her own significant contribution to ASCT and to the field of cytotechnology. Nominations are now being accepted for the prestigious Marion and Nelson Holmquist Cytotechnologist Achievement Award. The objective of this award is to recognize a cytotechnologist for his/her contributions to the field of diagnostic cytology. Emphasis will be on the nominee’s more recent contributions. Any cytotechnologist who is a member in good standing of the ASCT is eligible to be nominated. The following criteria are used to evaluate nominees: Clinical skills (as documented by references); professional involvement; teaching/research activities; honors/awards in Cytotechnology and commitment/dedication to Cytotechnology. |

Warren R. Lang Student AwardAmong the most eagerly anticipated honors presented by the ASCT are the awards for student case presentations at our Annual Conference. Established in 1989 by the ASCT Executive Council in memory of Dr. Warren R. Lang, the Warren R. Lang Award was originally awarded to a single graduate of an accredited School of Cytotechnology. Dr. Lang was a distinguished professor of Cytotechnology and Medical Director of the School of Cytotechnology at Thomas Jefferson University's College of Allied Health Sciences in the 1970s. In 1983, he became Chair of the Department of Pathology. Renowned for his unwavering advocacy for cytotechnologists, cytology students, and pathology residents, Dr. Lang was passionate about teaching and deeply supportive of the ASCT's formation. He believed it was not only a cytotechnologist’s right but also their responsibility to shape their profession actively. Today, students presenting cases at the Annual Conference are eligible for this prestigious award. The first-place winner receives $150 and a one-year membership to the ASCT, while second- and third-place winners receive $100 and $50, respectively. To learn more about this award and see the winners, visit the Student Forum web page. We are proud to celebrate the ten students who represented Cytotechnology Programs nationwide and competed in the Interesting Case Presentation Competition at the 2024 ASCT Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA. |
